St Lambert United Church is currently seeking candidates to fill a part-time (5 hours/week) Child and Youth Christian Development Coordinator position. This position will be defined on an annual contract basis for a ten-month period (mid-August to mid-June). The Coordinator will serve as the visible liaison between the Christian Development committee and the children and their parents in St Lambert United. The position will require some weekend and weeknight work, as well as working from home.

CHILD AND YOUTH CHRISTIAN DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Child and Youth Christian Development Coordinator is the visible liaison between the Christian Development (CD) committee and the children and their parents in St. Lambert United Church.

The Coordinator will be a resource person at CD committee meetings, and be an energetic and enthusiastic presence at youth activities and events. This position will be filled on an annual contract basis, and will average 20 hours per month for a period of ten months (mid-August to mid-June). Due to the responsibilities involved, some weeknight and weekend work will be required, as well as working from home.

The Child and Youth Christian Development Coordinator will:

  • Attend monthly Christian Development committee meetings
  • Attend all youth events and activities (once a month or less)
  • Be present at some Sunday worship services (approximately every two weeks)
  • Schedule Sunday School teachers
  • Coordinate the procurement of supplies  for Sunday School and activities
  • Schedule volunteers to do Circle Time with the children.  This includes supporting the volunteers by explaining the resources and websites available. The Circle Time schedule will be sent to the Church Office Administrator and Minister.
  • Publish the schedule of Sunday School teachers and Circle Time volunteers on the bulletin board 
  • Remind teachers and Circle Time volunteers before ‘their week’.  For example, send out a reminder every Wednesday to the upcoming Sunday volunteers.
  • Verify that the teachers and Circle Time volunteers have everything required, and make any required photocopies and leave them in the designated mail slot
  • Read and sort through mailings – physical and e-mail – and disburse interesting information regarding Youth Forum, workshops, our World Vision child, etc (the Child and Youth CD Coordinator will have a mailbox)
  • Communicate with families and children on a regular basis
  • Communicate with Sunday School teachers and project volunteers, the Minister and the Church Office Administrator on a regular basis
  • Manage a SLUC Youth Facebook group, optimizing this important communication channel with youth and families
  • Ensure that information regarding Sunday School and special events is put into the church bulletin, as well as reserving rooms for the special events
